Post Church of England apologizes to Darwin
Rev Dr Malcolm Brown, Director of Mission and Public Affairs for The Church of England wrote a great article about Darwin in which the following, amongst other things, was said:
Rev Dr Malcolm Brown wrote:
Charles Darwin: 200 years from your birth, the Church of England owes you an apology for misunderstanding you and, by getting our first reaction wrong, encouraging others to misunderstand you still. We try to practice the old virtues of 'faith seeking understanding' and hope that makes some amends. But the struggle for your reputation is not over yet, and the problem is not just your religious opponents but those who falsely claim you in support of their own interests. Good religion needs to work constructively with good science – and I dare to suggest that the opposite may be true as well.

It's well worth the read for those on both sides of the debate, check it out here

We'll see. Although, here in the US...many of "those" people still believe the myth Darwin recanted his theory and saw the light on his death bed.

Of course he didn't, but even if he had it wouldn't mean anything for evolutionary theory. Darwin was one of the pioneers of the theory of natural selection, the building blocks of evolutionary theory, but by modern standards he was by no means an expert, he just laid the groundwork. So if he recanted his ideas (which he didn't, but even if he had) it wouldn't be of any consequence for the theory, which has been beyond what his understanding was for well over a hundred years.
